Getting Started
What happens during an introductory trial offer?
Getting started is simple:
Complete our trial form through our website, a social media ad, or by contacting FastKick directly.
We'll recommend the appropriate class based on the student's age and experience.
Schedule the first lesson.
Complete the required registration and waiver.
Pay the applicable trial fee in person.
Attend the scheduled lessons within the time period stated in the current offer.
Near the end of the trial, we can discuss regular membership options if you're interested.
There's no obligation to continue after the trial.
Do I need to register, or can I just show up?
Please contact us or complete the online trial form before attending. This lets us place the student in the correct age group, confirm availability, and schedule the first lesson.
Walk-ins are welcome to ask questions, but lessons should be scheduled in advance.
Who can use an introductory trial offer?
Unless otherwise stated, our introductory offers are available to new FastKick students from age four through adulthood, for our children's, teen, or adult beginner group programs.
Introductory offers are limited to one per new student.
What is included in the trial?
The trial includes the scheduled beginner group martial arts lessons described in the current offer. Unless specifically stated otherwise, it does not include a uniform, protective equipment, belt testing, private lessons, merchandise, or regular membership.
How soon do we need to begin, and what if we can't finish all the trial lessons in time?
Claiming, starting, and completion deadlines vary by promotion and are explained before payment. Once the first lesson is attended, the trial completion period begins. Any unused lessons expire at the end of that period — they can't be carried over, transferred, converted to credit, or refunded.
Is the trial payment refundable?
No. Trial payments are nonrefundable, including if a student stops attending or doesn't complete all the included lessons.
Is there a commitment after the trial?
No. The trial does not automatically enroll you in a regular membership. If you're interested in continuing, we'll explain membership options, costs, and policies in person before you decide.
Is My Child — or Am I — a Good Fit?
My child has never taken martial arts. Will they be behind?
Not at all. Most students begin with no previous experience. New students learn the fundamentals at an appropriate pace and are expected to improve from their own starting point — not compete with classmates who've trained longer.
My child is shy or anxious in group settings. How do you handle that?
We don't expect every new student to feel completely comfortable on day one. Instructors introduce students to the class, explain what to expect, and encourage participation without embarrassing or singling anyone out. Some kids join right in; others need time.
Is martial arts good for a child who has a lot of energy?
Yes. Class gives kids a structured place to move, work toward goals, and practice controlling their energy — the goal is learning when and how to use it, not suppressing it.
What if my child struggles with listening or focus?
Classes use routines, short instructions, physical activity, repetition, and achievable goals to help students practice attention and self-control. It helps, but progress takes consistency and teamwork between the student, instructors, and family.
Will martial arts make my child aggressive?
Our training emphasizes control, respect, good judgment, and avoiding unnecessary conflict. Students learn these skills are never for intimidating others, showing off, or starting a fight — physical self-defense is a last resort.
Can you work with children who have ADHD, autism, sensory needs, or other learning differences?
Every child is different. Talk with us about your child's needs before the first lesson so we can determine whether our group-class setting is a good fit — we'll be honest about whether we can provide a safe, positive, productive experience.
I'm an adult beginner. Is it too late to start?
It's never too late. Our adult program welcomes beginners and experienced students alike. You don't need to be flexible, athletic, or already familiar with martial arts — you begin at an appropriate level and progress at your own pace.
Will I feel out of place in the adult class?
No. Adults join for self-defense, fitness, stress relief, confidence, or the challenge of learning something new — our adult classes mix ages, abilities, goals, and experience levels.
What are the FastKick age groups?
Warrior Focus — ages 4–5
Warrior Discipline — ages 6–8
Warrior Confidence — ages 9–12
Warrior Leadership — ages 13–18
Warrior Mastery — ages 18+
Warrior Elite — advanced training for eligible students
Program placement is based mainly on age, since each class is built around a developmental stage — though an instructor may occasionally recommend a different placement based on maturity, size, and overall fit. Moving up early is an instructor decision, not an automatic option.
What Students Learn
What type of martial arts training does FastKick offer?
FastKick is a well-rounded school rather than one limited to a single style. Our foundation is traditional martial arts, blending a variety of techniques and styles with practical self-defense, plus athletic-performance training for speed, agility, coordination, balance, and strength. Not every class covers every discipline — skills are introduced at the appropriate age and level.
Is this traditional martial arts, or more like fitness and self-defense?
Both, with traditional martial arts as the foundation. Students learn technique, discipline, respect, forms, partner drills, practical self-defense, and earned belt progression, alongside age-appropriate athletic training.
Will my child learn real self-defense?
Yes — age-appropriate awareness, setting boundaries, staying calm, creating distance, escaping, getting help, and physical technique when necessary. Physical technique is only one part; students learn the best outcome is usually avoiding, de-escalating, or safely leaving.
Do you teach forms and traditional techniques?
Yes — forms, stances, strikes, kicks, blocking, movement, and partner drills build balance, coordination, control, memory, and proper technique, taught alongside practical application.
Are adult and children's classes mixed? How does belt progression work?
No — classes are separated by age so instruction, expectations, and contact level are appropriate for each group; FastKick doesn't currently offer an all-ages family class.
Belts are earned by demonstrating the required knowledge, technique, effort, attendance, and readiness — not just time attended. Students are generally considered for promotion every two to three months, though it depends on the individual.
Is competition required?
No. Students get a complete martial arts education without competing. Tournament opportunities may be offered, but participation is optional.
Safety & Student Support
How do you manage contact and injury risk?
Contact is introduced gradually and kept appropriate for the student's age, experience, and program. Students practice controlled technique, follow clear rules, and learn to stop immediately when instructed. As with any physical activity, it can't be completely risk-free, but safety and control are always part of the instruction.
Do younger children spar? Is protective equipment used?
Younger students may do controlled partner activities that teach distance, movement, defense, and control — hard contact and uncontrolled fighting are never permitted. More advanced sparring is introduced only when appropriate. Protective equipment is used when required for the activity or contact level, and is explained before a student participates (it's not included in an introductory offer unless stated).
What happens if my child becomes frustrated during class?
An instructor may give the student a brief moment to reset, get water, calm down, and rejoin. We want students to learn perseverance, but we never shame or physically force a distressed child to participate. If it continues, we'll talk with the parent about next steps.
What if a student is injured or becomes sick during class?
Training stops, the student is assessed, and the parent or emergency contact is notified when appropriate. Please tell us about relevant injuries, medical conditions, allergies, or activity restrictions before class.
Classes & Logistics
What should students wear during the trial? Is a uniform included?
Comfortable athletic clothing — no uniform purchase required for the trial. Clothing should allow safe movement with no zippers, jewelry, or anything sharp. Bring a water bottle. Unless a promotion states otherwise, a uniform isn't included, and requirements/pricing are explained if you decide to enroll.
Where is FastKick located, and what's the class schedule?
356 Franklin Ave, Belleville, NJ 07109. Class times vary by age group and may change as programs grow — contact us for the current schedule before attending.
How many classes should a regular student attend each week?
Our standard program includes two classes per week. Warrior Elite includes additional weekly training. Consistent attendance matters for skill development and belt progression.
Can parents watch class, or is it drop-off only?
Either — whichever makes you and your child most comfortable. Parents who stay watch from the designated area and avoid distracting or coaching their child during instruction.
Can siblings in different age groups attend together?
Students train with their assigned age group, so siblings of different ages may have different class times — this keeps instruction appropriate for each child's developmental level.
What happens when a regular student misses class?
FastKick doesn't schedule separate make-up lessons — the student can attend the next available regular class for their program. Missed classes don't result in a refund, tuition credit, billing pause, or membership extension.
Do you close for holidays or bad weather?
We may close or modify the schedule for holidays, severe weather, emergencies, special events, or instructor training. Closures are shared through our regular parent communication channels.
Cost & Membership
What does regular membership cost after the trial? Are family discounts available?
Pricing is provided in person — we'll explain programs, tuition, payment schedule, and any additional costs before you enroll, with a chance to review everything and ask questions first. We'll also explain any currently available sibling or family discounts at that time.
Is there a contract, and how does cancellation work?
FastKick offers month-to-month, 9-month, and 12-month options — the trial doesn't automatically enroll you in any of them. Terms are provided in writing before enrollment.
Month-to-month memberships require email cancellation and 30 days' notice (payments scheduled during that window remain due). Nine- and 12-month memberships are commitments for the full term and generally can't be ended early just because a student stops attending, changes schedule, or loses interest — full terms and exceptions are in the membership agreement.
Can a membership be frozen?
Students on a 9- or 12-month membership may request one 30-day attendance deferral per term, by email, approved in advance. Payments continue during those 30 days, the student doesn't attend, and 30 days are added to the end of the term at no extra tuition. Not available on month-to-month memberships.
Are there expenses besides monthly tuition?
Depending on the program and level: uniforms, protective equipment, belt testing, tournaments, events, private lessons, upgrades, or merchandise. We'll explain what's required and what's optional.
What is Warrior Elite?
FastKick's advanced program for committed students ready for additional weekly training and deeper development — advanced technique, sparring, practical self-defense, takedowns, athletic performance, and leadership. It's not a shortcut to a black belt, and participation doesn't guarantee promotion. Best suited for students who attend consistently and want to be challenged further.
